A Message from the Mayor
Melfort is a small city that is a city on the move, with all of the amenities of a larger city. We take pride in the friendliness of our citizens and in the safe environment of our community. Melfort is located in an area that contains some of the richest farmland in Saskatchewan and as such, Melfort is a major service center for the entire Northeast.
Melfort has superb facilities for our citizens and visitors. . The Northern Lights Palace, rink and swimming pool complex, is a first rate facility rivaled by few others. It contains an 1,800-seat arena and a swimming pool with a water slide and wave technology, one of only a few in the entire province. The Kerry Vickar Centre is a multi-purpose facility, which contains the CJVR Performing Arts Theatre, the Sherven-Smith Art Gallery and Swartout Hall, which doubles as a gymnasium capable of accommodating indoor soccer. This building also includes the Affinity Credit Union Meeting Rooms as well as the Bourgault Board Room, which makes it an ideal convention center.
Melfort is home to a host of other facilities that cater to other sport, cultural and recreation interests. A new addition to our list of outstanding facilities is a Skatepark. This 15,000 square foot facility has aspects that are challenging for all skill levels of skaters. The Skatepark is the first phase of the Spruce Haven Park Recreation Area development. Future components include two full-size soccer pitches, and an all-accessible playground and spray park opening in the summer of 2019.
Melfort is famous for its volunteerism, as evidenced by its hosting of various events; these include Saskatchewan Summer and Winter Games, the Royal Bank Cup, and prestigious curling events such as the 2018 Viterra Scotties Tournament of Hearts Provincial Play Downs. Our city provides a quality of life that is second to none. We have quality health care facilities, which include our new Wellness Centre that is attached to the hospital and currently houses 12 physicians, a quality education system and a community that is growing from a commercial standpoint, as evidenced by the StoneGate shopping development.
I am proud to be the Mayor of Melfort and to be part of a dedicated City Council that strives to continually move our city forward with constant growth and progress in the development of our community. To all visitors, I would like to say, "Welcome to our community". I sincerely hope that you enjoy your stay in our city.
Mayor Glenn George
