Additional Information

Q: Why is there a limit on the number of swimmers allowed?

AEach swim program has a set capacity limit for safety purposes. This limit is determined by the number of lifeguards scheduled to be on duty.

Q: Are walk-in guests allowed?

AYes, walk-in guests are admitted as space permits.

Q: Why is there an online reservation system?

A: The online reservation system offers several advantages for customers. It allows them to check the availability of spots in each swim program before visiting the facility. Additionally, they can reserve a spot in advance, ensuring they have a place in the swim program of their choice.

Q: Are refunds available for online reservations?

AIf you are unable to attend a reservation, please call within 2 hours of the event start time to cancel. Unfortunately, refunds are not offered for missed swim bookings.

Q: Why is there an Admission Standard?

A: Our goal is to provide safe recreation. Children are not safe when they are out of arm’s reach in the pool, as they may not recognize the risks around them. Responsible adults help keep children safe and prevent accidents. While lifeguards are there to handle emergencies, many incidents can be avoided when an adult provides direct supervision.

Q: When are the waves on?

AThe waves come on during every public swim.

Q: Are there towels?

AThe pool does not supply towels.

QAre lockers available?

A: Yes, lockers are available in each change room. Small lockers cost $0.25, and large lockers are $0.75.

Q: Are there private change rooms?

AYes, we have a Family Change room area that includes private changing stalls and an accessible shower area.

Q: Are life jackets available?

AYes, life jackets are available free of charge.

Each program or activity has a maximum capacity.

You can reserve spots in a program in advance to guarantee admission.

Walk-in guests will be admitted if a program is not full. While reservation is not required, it is encouraged. Some programs are popular and can reach full capacity quickly. Payment is required to reserve spots in a program.

Reserve online or by calling 306-752-7200.

Anyone planning to enter the pool must wear proper swimwear, like a bathing suit. Other clothing can be worn in the water as long as it’s not loose and hasn’t been worn outside before your visit. Clean swimwear helps keep the pool water safe for everyone. Please check our guide for more details:

Appropriate swimwear

Bathing suits are the best choice for safe and relaxed swimming. This includes one and two-piece suits, shorts, modest and performance swimwear. They are made of materials that make swimming easy.

PictureSwimmers may also wear cover ups while swimming like shorts, leggings and swim shirts. Form fitting clothing made of spandex and nylon absorb less water and are easier to swim in. Clothing that is loose or made of cotton are difficult to swim in and can be dangerous for weak swimmers.

Inappropriate swimwear

Some clothing is not appropriate for the pool, i.e., items that are loose fitting and materials that absorb water. They create a risk to swimmer safety. Undergarments and clothing worn to the water park from outside can also make the water unhealthy and cannot be worn in the water.

Incontinent swimmers

Children who are not toilet trained must wear an appropriate swimmer diaper. Regular diapers are not designed for pools. Guests can buy a swimmers diaper from guest services for young children.

  • 25 meters with 5 lanes
  • Large beach and deck area
  • Family change room
  • Zero depth to 2.2m (7'4")
    • The Palace sports a zero depth entrance / exit. The design of the pool is very elegant, and this is one of the best aspects of it. The shallow area ranges from 0 to 7.4 feet deep. The waves do not crash hard on the beach but rather move you up and down. This is much gentler for toddlers.
    • There are 2 tot pools protected from the waves. One closer to the changerooms and one that isolated from the rest of the pool when the spray bar is not in use.
    • The zero depth allows easier access for the elderly and the disable can be wheeled in with assistance on a rolling chair. An excellent addition to our wonderful facility
  • Wave generation
    • The City of Melfort boasts an amazing 620,000 liter wave pool. The pool is 25 meters wide in the center. It starts at zero depth increasing to 2.2 m deep. Ride the 24 inch waves in the deep, swim near the edge and have them toss you against the wall or lay down on the beach as they wash up against you.
    • Definitely the favorite feature of the facility, the waves keep people coming back to Melfort from all corners of the province.
  • 150’ waterslide
    • The Northern Lights Palace boasts an impressive waterslide. The slide is 150 feet long and keeps people coming back just to go down the waterslide. With a quick drop at the start to give you some speed, a couple twists and turns, and another drop at the end as you splash to a finish.
    • It can give you enough speed if you lay down that you need the 4 feet of water in the exit pool to slow you down. Or if you are sitting up with a toddler on your lap you can slip easily into the water with a little practice.
    • Because of the exit pool being 1.2m (4’0”), there is a height requirement of 1.3m (4’2”) marked on the wall. If your child does not meet the requirement, you can either assist them going down or if they are old enough to catch them at the bottom of the slide as they exit.
    • If you enjoy waterslides, you will have a blast at the Palace.
  • Tot spray pool
  • Hot tub/Whirlpool
    • If you need to relieve a little tension, take a soak in our large whirlpool. The hot tub is 1.0m (3.3’) deep with a seating ledge surrounding the entire perimeter. There are jets around the outside for you to sit against for relief of your back muscles. Relaxing heat and muscle stimulation relieves physical burdens and brightens the spirits. All you have to do is step in.
    • Researchers have observed the healing effects of hydrotherapy: improved circulation, decreased joint pain, and acceleration of the body's natural healing processes. No scientific research is needed for these benefits, the way stress seems to release itself into the hot water.
    • Water is used in physiotherapy to speed recovery from injuries, relieve muscle soreness by facilitating the removal of lactic acid, open the blood vessels to improve circulation, help the muscles around arthritic joints relax, and promote the flow of endorphins.
    • Our whirlpool is kept at 40°C and seats 15 people. Warm your muscles before a workout, hop in and out on a long day of swimming, or some just come to unwind after a long day. Enjoy!
  • Dry sauna
    • We have a full size cedar dry sauna for those who want to sweat. Sweating will clean out your pores and detoxify your body. The temperatures in a sauna are 60 to 80 degrees Celsius. The extreme heat can give you an increased heart rate and metabolism which can help lose weight. 20 minutes in a dry sauna will help you burn around 300 calories. This is about the same as going for a long walk or a short run. Benefits of a sauna include the expansion of your blood vessels and raising your internal temperature high enough (43°C) to burn fat.
    • Additional care should be taken if a swimmer has a history of low blood pressure. Children under the age of 12 are not allowed in the sauna for their safety.

  • Men’s, Women’s and Family Change rooms
  • Accessible shower in Family Change room
  • Meeting room with a capacity for 15 people
