Business Licenses

The City of Melfort requires all businesses to have a valid business license to operate within City limits. See the Licensing Bylaw for more information.   

All licensed businesses have the option to be included in our online business directory.   

Applying for a Business License 

A new business license can be obtained by visiting City Hall, or completing a form below. Business licenses are issued on an annual basis from January 1st to December 31st 

Business License with a civic business premise 

This license applies to businesses with a physical address. Business must be carried out at the location shown on the business license and the business license must be prominently displayed within the place of business.

Business License without a business premise 

This license applies to businesses not having an established place of business in the City. The business license must be produced on demand of the License Inspector or a customer or client.

If a business is carried on at more than one location, a person must obtain a license for each location. A license is only valid at the location for which it is issued. 

Business License Fees 

The fee payable can be found in the City of Melfort Fees and Charges Bylaw. For definitions of types of activities and their category, please refer to 2007-25 Licensing Bylaw Consolidation. 

Business licenses renew annually on January 1st, invoices for the coming year will be sent out by the end of March. If you have not received your invoice by then, please contact City Hall at city@melfort.ca or 306-752-5911. 

Discontinuance, Change, Relocation or Transfer 

A person must notify the City if a business is discontinued, or if any changes are made with regards to location, ownership, registered business name, mailing address or other nature of the business.
